The Magician

Express yourself
but make sure you follow the rules
buying life from a shelf, like one big supermarket
fools

somebody wake me up!
but I’m definitely not dreaming
this is one-hundred percent real
no make believing

Somewhere within us
there’s a bit of magic
use wisely if you have it
if you haven’t found it, don’t worry

keep searching, it’s there.
we’ll wait, no need to hurry
at the end of the day
we’re but a spec on a tiny rock

suspended somewhere in the depths of time
space, space, time
relative to that, well, we’re not here but for a little while
set your watch, look at the dial

see it moving?
I do.
let it pull you forward, blowing dust off the surface to reveal what’s hiding
full steam ahead

Yes, captain! faster now
I see it quite clearly
the stories, friends, dances, beloveds dearly,
we leave it all behind

On this tiny rock
this tiny rock
tiny rock
rock

I do say, what have we to show?
one might protest, “someday none of it will matter!”
but until then, center stage belongs to you, so have it
and dazzle us, with your cards, wand, hat and rabbit.
