Out Of Control

Posted on by Brian Hertzog

I'm guilty.  I worry about things out of my control.  Do you do this?  Why?  It's tempting, yet completely irrational.

Take sports for example.  We always complain about "horrible refs".  But the same ref is watching the game for the other team too, so the odds of blowing a critical call are equal.

Rather than be miserable about things I can't change, I'd much rather focus on what I can.  I could run more, read more, be more brave, or work a little harder.  I can't make myself better looking, or force people to love me.  I can't change the past or see into the future.  But that's ok.

Worrying about what you can't do or control will get you nowhere.  If you focus on what you can control, the rest will take care of itself.  You won't be worry-free, but you'll be worrying smarter.  Court adjourned.
